Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

This summer, Fort Osage School District is embarking on a new challenge. We are starting a summer book club. As soon as I was approached by this, I knew that we needed to read the book Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. This book was on the Gateway Nomination list in 2009-2010. It ended up winning the award in April of 2010. I knew we had to read this book because it has such a powerful message. The book is about high school student, Clay Jenkins. Clay receives a box in the mail containing seven cassette tapes recorded by his crush, Hannah Baker, who committed suicide. He spends a bewildering and heartbreaking night crisscrossing their town, listening to Hannah's voice recounting the events leading up to her death. The real kicker is that because Clay received the tapes, that means he is in some way part of the reason she killed herself.

This blog will be the site of trivia and discussions for the summer reading club. Fell free to post questions or your observations or comments about the book. Please remember to keep this school appropriate. Also, please be considerate of other readers who may not be as far along in the book as you. If you post something that could be considered a spoiler, start the post with *SPOILER ALERT*.

New trivia and/or discussion questions will be posted every Thursday (June 6, 13, 20, & 27). Check back often to keep yourself in the conversation. You can also subscribe to this blog to get updates.
