13RW Week 4 Discussion

This site is where trivia and discussion questions will be posted for the summer reading club. Feel free to post questions or your observations or comments about the book. Please remember to keep posts school appropriate. Please be considerate of other readers who may not be as far along in the book as you. If you post something with a spoiler in it, at *SPOILER ALERT* to the beginning of the post.

Trivia Questions can be found here.

This blog is for the Cassette 5 Side B, Cassette 6 Side A & B, Cassette 7 Side A, and The Next Day. For the discussion, chose one and answer it in the comment section of this blog. Feel free to comment on other's answers. This book is full great issues to discuss.

Discussion Questions: Choose one

Cassette 5 Side B: Why do you think Hannah did nothing to stop the rape? How do you think you would have reacted?

Cassette 6 Side A:  How is Tony connected to the tapes? Have you ever been put in a situation that was similar to Tony's? One where you had to keep a secret that you didn't want to know?

Cassette 6 Side B: If you knew someone was thinking about committing suicide, what would you say to them?

Cassette 7 Side A & B and The Next Day: Why do you think Mr. Porter didn't go after Hannah when she left his office?

End of the Book Bonus Activity: This book focuses on a lot of negative emotions and hurt feelings and of course death. Hopefully the book has you thinking about how your actions and words affect those around you. As a bonus activity and one more entry into the prize drawing, pick one of the following projects to complete. This needs to be complete and turned in to me by June 30. If you choose a physical project, email me so we can meet up to turn it in. If you do something on the computer, you should be able to email it to me or email me a link.

Project 1: Make a collage of the 13 people you are most thankful for with a description of why you are thankful for them. (This can be done on paper or electronically).

Project 2: Make a video or a presentation of the 13 people you are most thankful for and explain why you're thankful for them. You can do quick interviews or just show pictures. This is very open and can made any way you want.

  6. If i knew someone who was about to commit suicide, I would try to stop them as much as I could, tell them it wouldn't be worth it, to many people would miss them. They have to think about the future, family, and friends. Their is so much more in the future to look forward to than just that time your going through at that moment. Anybody could think about it, but anyone could also help stop it from happening. So if you've thought about it, talk to someone about, get help, its the best thing to do.

  7. If someone I knew was thinking about committing suicide I would say to them that everything will be okay we can find help. It's not your fault you did nothing wrong. Most of the time when thinking about committing suicide you don't want to kill yourself you just think its the only way out of whats going on. but once its in your head and you've planed it out there's no stopping them from doing it. Just remember its your life and you can make it what ever you want. jln

  8. Cassette 6 Side B: If you knew someone was thinking about committing suicide, what would you say to them?
If I knew that someone was thinking about committing suicide I would go and talk to them. I would try and comfort them so they felt like they actually had someone there for them. When people think about committing suicide most of the time they wan't the pain of what they're going through to stop, but most of the time it's just a temporary thing.I know what it feels like I lost my grandfather recently and I didn't want to talk to anyone, I just wanted to sleep all day, I just wanted to be with him and I thought maybe I could be with him sooner than I thought. But I don't think I could have ever gone through with it. He wouldn't want me to miss all the opportunities in life. So I would tell them that everything will eventually get better and if it didn't then I would always be there for them.

  9. Cassette 6 Side B: If you knew someone was thinking about committing suicide, what would you say to them?

If I knew someone was thinking about suicide, I would make sure they know that they are loved and cared about, even if they don't feel like it. I would also talk through everything with them and ask if they would go see a professional and offer to go with them.
