Megan M. I think she likes it because it really expresses her feelings and gives her a positive outlook.
ReplyDeleteBethanni L. I think Hazel Grace likes An Imperial Affliction because it really seemed to be as a mirror to her thoughts and body. She felt like it understood her which I think made her more aware of herself and gave her a more positive outlook. I also think she does like the ending and even though it doesn't give any explanation of the other characters it make the book very unique and different, just like her, having the possible end of dying and leaving the book without further information.

ReplyDeleteI think that Hazel loves the book An Imperial Affliction because it kind of goes along with her life. The characters in that book struggle and she doesn't know what happened or will happen to them. I think that it added an interest factor for her because she doesn't know what will happen to her and she doesn't want to hurt anyone. I think that she wants to know what ends up happening and have no questions left because her life is so far from ever being that way and it could make her feel better.
Rheanne B. I think that Hazel loves the book An Imperial Affliction is because Hazel feels that the book reflects some of the feelings she has about having cancer, the main character describes how the side affects effect her and how she feels about having cancer , Hazel feels the same thing as the main character. It made Hazel feel understood and that gave her a more positive outlook. Another reason I think that Hazel loves the book is because it is honest about cancer in a way that no one else has been. I believe she likes Am Imperial Affliction is that the ending of the book, the book ends without any details of what happened to the characters of the book, which is a very unique way of ending a book.

ReplyDeleteThe story An imperial Affliction ended because of Anna, main character, died. So the story ended at mid-sentence to supposedly show how life really ends and Hazel was obsessed on the fact that Anna's story was kinda like her own story. Hazel was also wanted to know what happened to the other characters in An Imperial Affliction because she felt that maybe the people in her story, when she dies, will be the same way. She also wanted to know if Anna's mom is okay just like she wants to know that her mom and loved ones will be okay when she passes.
I believe Hazel likes An Imperial Affliction, because the book ends in the middle of a sentence, and leaves the reader with mixed feelings. -Lewis C.
ReplyDeleteSusan D. - I think Hazel likes the book An Imperial Affliction because it some what tells how she feels with her cancer and she thinks it tells the truth. To her and in the book her cancer is just side effect of dying.
ReplyDeleteLily H - I think she loves the book so much 1) because the author knew what it was like to be dying without having died, which made her feel less alone and 2) because it ended with a. "there is something to recommend a story that ends"

ReplyDeleteI believe that Hazel Grace likes An Imperial Affliction because the author writes about what it is really like having cancer, and does not sugar coat it. He knows what cancer patients are going through without actually having cancer himself. Hazel Grace also likes the connection between her cancer story and the book.

ReplyDeleteHazel enjoys An Imperial Affliction because it serves as a symbol of her own life. Throughout her illness, she's had to question her own mortality and has had to face the fact that her own life could possibly end at a moments notice.

ReplyDeleteI think Hazel loves the book An Imperial Affliction because she is able to relate to the book without it being the typical depressing cancer story. An Imperial Affliction ends unexpectedly leaving Hazel with unanswered questions about how the girl’s life turned out. When Hazel was diagnosed with cancer she started not knowing how things could turn out. At any minute Hazel’s life could just stop without any answers, just like the girl in the book. I believe Hazel writes the author as often as she does because even though the girl in the story may have died, she wants to know how everyone else responded to the death. I feel as if Hazel isn’t so much worried about dying as she is the way it will affect her parents and friends.
I agree wholeheartedly that Hazel's cancer has little or nothing to do with why she likes An Imperial Affliction. Her affection for the book reminds me of my affection for Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead: it is a story that seems to exist solely because the author wants it to, whether or not it appeals to the masses. It is starkly realistic, and in that way entirely unpredictable. There are certain tropes that most fiction stories, particularly those written for "young adults", tend to stick with, and there is almost inevitably a happy ending. Hazel's snarky, teenagely-jaded attitude as a narrator tells me that she's had more than her fair share of "everything will be wonderful" mentalities that discount the very real possibility that everything might just be terrible. A book that acknowledges the uncertainty of life and addresses it as a good thing would be a breath of fresh air for Hazel (at least metaphorically).
DeleteI think Hazel loves An Imperial Affliction more than what she relizes because Anne has cancer and Hazel feels sorry for her and can relate to what she is going through. She likes it so much she told Augustus to read it. I think Hazel will end up loving Augustus because she talks about him a lot and is head over heels for him. I think Hazel will get over her illness and will be with Augustus.
ReplyDeleteI believe the reason Hazel enjoys An Imperial Affliction is because it has to do with the main character, Anne, getting cancer. She has empathy for Anne because she also has cancer, so she can create a very deep connection with her. Hazel and Anne both somewhat take cancer in a comical fashion, they find ways to make fun out of something slowly killing them, they both struggle with daily life as well. The way the book abruptly ends satisfies Hazel’s obsession with death, also wanting more. She wants to know what becomes of Anne’s family and friends, same for Hazel, she wants to know what will become of her friends and family when she’s gone too.
ReplyDeleteThe reason I believe Hazel, who suffers from lung cancer, enjoys reading an Imperial Affliction is because the main character, Anne, has a rare blood disease. This creates a connection for Hazel that allows her to feel as though she isn't alone in her struggles. The idea that the book simply ends makes me feel this will end up being a little foreshadowing for Hazel and/or Gus. I hope I am wrong, but it seems the author is giving the readers plenary of clues as to what someone's fate may become.

ReplyDeleteI believe she liked the book because the main charector Anne also suffers. from cancer

ReplyDeleteI think that Hazel loves the book Imperial Affliction so much is because the book is basically mirroring Hazels life. Anne suffers from a rare blood cancer and Hazel suffers from lung cancer. Both Anne and Hazel don't have a lot of money and the cause of that is the medical bills and treatments they have to pay for.
I feel that Hazel loves this book because it just ends. It gives her a sense of finality. A person can affect the lives of those around them while they are alive, but knowing how you will affect those lives after you have died will be unknown to you. And for those who have been affected by the person who has died, they will always be wondering how life might have been different had the person that died, had lived. But the book just ends because that is how the author believes life ends.
ReplyDeleteShe likes the book because the girl had cancer just like she did and, she died because of it.So Hazel thinks that she will die of her cancer just as the girl did.
ReplyDeleteI think Hazel likes AIA because she can sort of relate to the book and the fact that it is NOT a cancer book, because cancer books have a part where the main character starts a charity for other kids with cancer for after their passing, and the fact that it can be realistic, like TFIOS. I really wish AIA really existed.

ReplyDeleteHaze loves this book so much because it is so realistic. The book just drops off with no clear ending just like death will cut you off in the middle of a thought or sentence. She can relate to a story about a girl with cancer because she has cancer and can make text to self connections. And although there is a girl with cancer in the book, it is not a book about cancer. This is about Anna and her life, not about the fact she has cancer. I sort of with AIA was a real book.
Bobbie Jo B. I think Hazel loves this book because it expresses how they both have cancer. Hazel doesn't know her ending either so she can connect with the book not having an ending.
ReplyDeleteI think that Hazel loves this book because this book is about cancer and it can relate to her, and everything that she is going through. Also August loves this book to because it can relate to him also.
ReplyDeletei think she can connect to the main character having cancer & that it portrays what real life is like with the book being in first person point of view & ending like it did.
ReplyDeleteHazel likes this novel because there are no answers. She is obsessed with knowing what happens to the characters after the girl dies. Hazel is struggling with what will happen to her parents after she dies. Hazel sees her parents struggling, she attends the support group where one more name is added to the memorial prayer. She is uncertain about the after life and this book does not answer that question either.
ReplyDeleteI'm a little late on this, sorry. I think she feels a connection to the characters and then the sudden stop at the end. Ending mid sentence probably feels like everything in her life. Whether she controls it or not, she ends several activities due to her illness or lack of interest.
ReplyDeleteHaley J. I think that Hazel loves the book "An Imperial Affliction" because the author seemed to understand her because the book is about a girl with cancer.
ReplyDeleteShe has lots in common with the protagonist! Plus the book just stops leaving lots of possibilities for the future of the character - just like her life.
